Brush Clearance & Defensible Space

With the increasing risk of wildfires in Southern California, regular brush clearance is one of the most important steps property owners can take to protect their homes and businesses. Brush clearance involves removing dry, dead, or overgrown vegetation around structures, fences, and roadways to create a defensible space. This buffer zone slows or stops the spread of fire, helping safeguard your property and the surrounding community.
Local fire departments, including the Los Angeles Fire Department (LAFD), establish and enforce brush clearance requirements. Properties that do not comply may receive warnings, fines, or forced clearance. Meeting these regulations not only avoids penalties but also provides critical protection during wildfire season.

  • Maintain 5 ft vertical clearance between trees and roofs.
